Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park

Hopefully you've checked out the other pictures by clicking on Amici. We went to Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park in Freeport, Maine. Some of you may have heard of Freeport because of LL Bean. I had never been to this State Park before but I had heard a lot of good things about it. It is only about 5-10 minutes away from downtown Freeport and you conveniently turn at LL Bean. It was easy to find and well marked with beautiful country side scenery along the way (we even saw belted cows- which I affectionately call oreo cows). Amici was rearing to go once we got there. I think he thought I was taking him to a new dog park. He pulled me full force down the first trail but once he understood that this wasn't an off leash area he calmed down and walked with me. We went down to the ocean first. I love the ocean. It smells great, looks beautiful, and it is very calming to look at. Amici sniffed everything in site and eventually began to eat some seaweed. We met one of the park rangers who seemed to fall in love with Amici. She had a lot of good dog advice and was easy to talk to. We went on our merry way soon after as we both were getting hot and needed some shade from the trees. The paths were well marked and very clean. It was nice to walk along the coastline, head into the woods, and then walk along the river. At the end of our adventure we were tired. I was sweaty and Amici was jumping into every stream and mud puddle he could find. I had brought water for him but having him drink water while he's on a mission is like asking the road runner to stop. On our way back to the parking lot one stream was VERY muddy which Amici decided to jump in so we ended up taking another trip to the ocean to get him washed off. He loves it. He was better this time too and didn't try to drink the ocean water as much as before. Overall he was a trooper. He would sit when someone wanted to pet him, sit/stay with me when we saw someone approaching who was eyeing us wearily, and he didn't pull hardly at all. On the way back home we stopped at the Pet Pantry. Amici was good in the store and I got him a bone and a lamb/rice treat. We drove down Route 1 South instead of taking the highway and then stopped along the way to get some Classic Custard's ice cream. We both had a small vanilla custard in a cup. Amici loved it! He gave kisses afterwards. Then 15 minutes later we were home. He fell asleep right away and has been napping off and on since. It was a great time!

I wish I could've gone there. My mom and dad and biped sister took a vacation to ME about a month ago but left us home :-( I did get to go there with them on vacation about 5 years ago though. It was beautiful.

That looks like a beautiful hike, and custard is the perfect ending.

Oh Amici, It sounds like you had a great day!!! Mom and I checked out that Pet Pantry site and they have some pretty cool stuff!
Hugs,

Lee, well, the sofa is not as clean as it was when we first got it. Fur does not stick to it like it does to the oversized chair/ottoman that we have. HA! Now, what you didn't see is all of the fur that we sweep up like every other day on the hardwood floors!!! Between Sitka and Tia, we sweep up three animals a week (at least).
